Scalp and hair buildup can be a daunting problem for those who suffer from an oily scalp. Not only that, even if you tend to use a lot of hair products (especially silicone-based shampoos and conditioners), clean your hair less often than necessary or in a hurry you may experience this problem. For me, I suffer from a lot of chlorine buildup if I don’t clean my hair EVERY single time I go for a swim. And having an oily scalp on top of it doesn’t help either. With so many contributing factors, if you suffer from an itchy scalp that seems to have residue lodged into it, chances are you might be suffering from scalp buildup.
What is buildup?
Scalp buildup occurs when your scalp does not get cleansed often and your haircare products starting from your conditioner to hairspray and waxes start to mix with your scalp sebum (oils) and get lodged into your scalp. Very soon, your scalp starts to get itchy, hair feels weighed down even after a wash and you start experiencing hairfall!
So what to do to get rid of it?
You can use clarifying shampoos once every week or every alternate week but clarifying shampoos can be very harsh for your hair if you use them more frequently. Plus some of them can dry your scalp excessively which might cause itching in itself! So if you are looking for something milder yet more efficient, try this one miraculous ingredient in your kitchen, Apple Cider Vinegar!
After your regular shampoo, take about 1 1/2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and dilute it with about 3/4th cup of water. Pour it onto your scalp taking special consideration for areas that you most suffer from buildup on. Massage it gently to further dislodge the grime and rinse your hair thoroughly after about a minute. Condition as usual.
And that’s it! Enjoy your buildup-free squeaky clean scalp and light, bouncy hair. The best thing about natural ingredients is that you can increase or decrease the concentration based on your needs. So go ahead and customise it according to your condition.
I go for a swim many times a week which if you don’t know, can leave nasty chlorine residues and make your hair fall out in huge amounts. So personally I use this rinse about 2-3 times a week. Although using it this frequently can enhance dryness in my hair but using a good moisturizing conditioner afterwards takes care of it. P.S- Avoid using white vinegar. It does not work as well as the Apple Cider Vinegar does.
