The MAC Brush Cleanser comes in a transparent plastic bottle. The bottle is sturdy albeit a little bulky for travelling. The one thing that is exceptionally bad is the lid of this bottle. While pouring out the cleanser, it leaks out wayyy too much product than is actually needed which leads to a lot of wastage! It’ll be nice if MAC starts selling this cleanser with a spray bottle in the future. Or you can transfer some of it into a spray bottle yourself.
Anyways, coming to the actual product, the cleanser is a pink colored liquid with a water-like consistency. It has an alcoholic smell to it. Only a small quantity of cleanser is needed at a time to clean and disinfect the makeup brushes. Some people like to mix it with water. I personally like to use it in the pure form but once in a while I do add 2-3 drops of water to it. No water is needed to rinse after using it and the brushes take a maximum of 5 minutes to dry thoroughly and become usable again. This feature comes in handy when you haven’t had time to wash your makeup brushes or are in the middle of your makeup and require a clean brush immediately. One thing I’d like to add here is that this cleanser should be used in the same way a dry shampoo is used for your hair. Its good for in-between the washes but is NOT a substitute for a regular soap(or shampoo)+water cleansing.

Now on to the performance, I feel the cleanser is a life saviour. We all know how cleaning the makeup brushes after each and every use is such a pain! (And if you don’t, you risk yourself of a skin or eye infection). And this product makes the process seem like a breeze! Most of the times, I use it about 5 minutes before my makeup and by the time I start, my makeup brushes are clean and ready to use. I won’t say it cleans the brushes spotlessly all the time because it doesn’t. But it cleans them well enough for you to use them guilt-free. It seems to perform much better with smaller brushes(like the ones for eye-makeup) than the larger face brushes. One thing I’d like to add here is that true to its claim, it doesn’t dry out the hair of the brushes and they are left quite soft.
How I Use It
I pour a few drops of this cleanser onto a tissue. I then take a dirty makeup brush and swirl it around on the cleanser-soaked tissue for about 15-20 seconds depending upon how dirty the brush is. Immediately, the brush starts to lose all the makeup residue in it. Once I am satisfied that the brush is clean, I reshape the bristles and lay it flat for it to dry which, again, is never more than 4-5 minutes.
MAC Brush Cleanser is quite a convenient product to clean and disinfect dirty makeup brushes. For those of you who don’t use makeup brushes frequently, you might be able to do without this product. But if you’re someone who does use them frequently, I’d highly recommend checking this product out. It prolongs the time interval between consecutive washes and just makes the whole brush cleaning procedure quite easy!
