So as some of you might now, I’m obsessed with lipsticks. The same, however, cannot be said about lip liners. I always found them too cumbersome and too dry for my lips. But ever since I got MAC’s Lip Pencil in Soar, it has completely changed my lip routine. Well, this and another lip pencil from Lakme that I talked about in my January favourites, which you can read about here. Anyways, coming to today’s post, I’ll be reviewing this much hyped lip pencil from MAC and telling you if this is worth the splurge or not.
Price: Rs 1400/-
The lip pencil comes in a matte black packaging. The pencil itself is wooden and has a black plastic cap. It is not a retractable pencil so it needs to be sharpened. I personally have no issue with that because it means that you can get a sharp tip everytime. But that also means that some of the product is wasted each time which might be a problem for some. The thickness of the pencil is pretty average and you can use any good eye/lip pencil sharpener available in the market for this purpose. I use a Colorbar one. The length, however, is on the longer side of an average lip pencil.
Coming onto the texture, it is quite soft in the sense that it goes pretty smoothly on your lips and does not tug on them at all. However it isn’t crumbly soft either. When worn by itself, it feels quite comfortable on the lips and does not dry the lips any further. Because of this, it can be layered underneath a lipstick or worn alone by itself too. As a lip pencil, you can pair it with your nude and light pink lipsticks to create a gradient effect. I get an average wear time of about 4-5 hours with mild drinks in between. If you have a full meal with this on, it is going to wear off.
The shade is a deep rose color. On my lips, it shows up a bit darker than it looks on a swatch. Although it is absolutely gorgeous, I feel that it isn’t a very unique shade and is dupable. However, that being said, it can be quite flattering across a wide range of skintones. Most of the dark lip pencils/ lipsticks tend to be on the brown or plum side. This can be nice variation from them.
MAC Lip Pencil in Soar is a deep rose-colored lip pencil. The shade is one of the most beautiful shades I own! The texture of the pencil is soft enough to go smoothly on the lips and not tug on them. The wear-time could have been a little better with it lasting only for about 4-5 hours (without meals) on me. Still, considering the texture and the shade of the pencil I’d say to grab it the next time you’re at the store. That is if you can find it at the mac store 😉 Highly recommended!
