Amazing Ways To Use Olive Oil For Beauty

Olive oil is one of the most versatile products for natural beauty fixes in our kitchens. Although it can be used in numerous ways, I’m going to be sharing some of my favourite ways to use this multifunctional oil in your daily beauty regimes.

1. As a Moisturizer

The polyphenols and phytosterols in olive oil have been found to have an ability to penetrate the skin and repair damage caused by the sun and environmental pollutants. According to a study published in 2007 in the ‘Journal of Pathology’, Vitamin E (which is found in a good amount in Olive Oil) is successfully able to fight free radicals and aging. Its moisturizing benefits are also known to be helpful for dry/chapped heels, elbows, feet and even eczema!

Here’s How To Do It

Use a few drops of olive oil on slightly damp skin just before you get out of the shower.

2. Nail and Cuticle Care

Olive Oil is a saviour if you tend to suffer from brittle nails. It is a also a recommended choice to both prevent and cure hang nails.

Here’s How To Do It

Slightly warm olive oil and pour it in a bowl. Dip your finger nails in the bowl for 15-20 minutes. Massage them often to speed up its absorption. While massaging, take special care to massage the cuticles as well.

3. Makeup Remover

Olive oil can help remove your makeup at the end of the day. It will dissolve all the washable and waterproof makeup and leave your baby soft and glowing afterwards.

Here’s How To Do It

Take some olive oil on a cotton pad and gently massage your eyes with it. Within a few seconds, you will see your makeup starting to dissolve. Similarly use it to remove all the makeup on your face. Wash with a mild facial cleanser afterwards.

Olive Oil adds softness, shine and resilience to dry/damaged hair thanks to all the emollients like oleic acid and palmitic acid it contains. It is also found to be helpful in reducing hairfall and aiding in hair growth. In addition, its regular use helps to prevent split ends.

Here’s How To Do It

Take some olive oil (depending on your hair length) and slightly warm it for a few seconds in a microwave. Remember never to heat olive oil as it will damage all its nutritional properties. Now take a cotton ball and start applying it in sections until you are done with all of your hair. Put on a shower cap and keep it for about 45 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo. Consistently use it atleast once per week to see benefits.

5. Aids Weight Loss

A study done in 2010 concluded that ‘An olive oil-enriched diet brought about greater weight loss than a lower-fat diet in an 8-week comparison’. Because of its high composition of healthy fats, inclusion of olive oil can bring about a greater difference in your weight loss journey.

Here’s How To Do It

Start including 3 tablespoons of olive oil in your daily diet regime for the next 2 months. However, don’t forget to make some adjustments in order to keep your daily calorie levels in check.

Amazing Ways To Use Olive Oil For Beauty6. Soften Hands

Olive oil can get you those soft and youthful hands that you’ve always wanted! It penetrates deep into the skin and enhances its suppleness.

Here’s How To Do It

Take some olive oil and apply it on your hands before sleeping. Wear some gloves (or even a pair of old socks!) on your hands to let the oil soak in the entire night.

7. Treat Dandruff and/or Dry, Itchy Scalp

A dry scalp is one of the major causes of a flakey scalp. To curb this problem, make use of extra virgin olive oil. Its consistent use makes sure that your scalp gets its proper care and prevents it from drying.

Here’s How To Do It

Lightly warm some olive oil and dip a cotton ball in it. Now use this cotton ball to apply olive oil onto your scalp and slightly rub your scalp while doing so. This will help in dislodging the flakes. After you’re done, cover it with a shower cap or a hot towel and wash off. Repeat it atleast once a week.

8. Soften Unruly Eyebrows

This is personally one of my favourite ways of using olive oil. Olive oil when used on unruly eyebrows helps immensely in nourishing and taming them!

Here’s How To Do It

At night, before sleeping, take about 1-2 drops of extra virgin olive oil and apply it onto each of your eyebrows. Do this regularly for a week and you will notice a huge difference in the texture of your eyebrows.

Amazing Ways To Use Olive Oil For Beauty9. Facial Scrub

Olive oil has remarkable properties as a moisturizing agent and can be used to a make a very effective homemade facial scrub.

Here’s How To Do It

Mix 1 part honey and 4 parts of sugar with 2 parts of extra virgin olive oil. Use this as a scrub to slough off any dry, flaky skin and instead reveal a baby soft skin. Michelle Phan has a video tutorial on this which you can watch here.

10. Lip Scrub

A concoction of brown sugar and olive oil works really well in fixing dry and chapped lips.

Here’s How To Do It

All you need to do is use a tablespoon of brown sugar with a teaspoon of olive oil. Mix the two and use it on your lips as a lip scrub. Plus, you can add a few drops of lemon to get rid of any lip pigmentation.

11. Shine and Anti-Frizz Serum

Instead of buying expensive hair serums, try some olive oil instead. It will impart a chemical-free glossy shine to your hair and tame the frizzy ones.

Here’s How To Do It

To impart shine and tame fly aways on your second-day strands, take 1-2 drops of olive oil in your palms. Rub them together and apply it to the ends of your hair. Do not use more than a couple of drops as it will make your hair look greasy.

Not just for beauty, olive oil is also known for its beneficial effects in preventing Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Heart Disease and Depression. So go ahead and include this wonderful oil in your daily health and beauty regime!

  1. I really like this post. Everytime I tried using coconut oil as makeup remover, after a couple of days, I had bad break outs. May be I would switch to olive oil and see if things get better.

  2. I was using it as Moisturizer during night time. But my PJs started smelling weird 🙂 also some stains, so stopped using it,..
