A few years ago, it was quite difficult to find good matte lipsticks in India. But now, times have changed and the market is flooded with amazing choices. So if you are looking for some drugstore matte lipsticks, here are some of the best formulations available for the matte lip lovers:

1. Lakme Absolute Sculpt Matte Lipsticks

Starting with one of my favourites, this range consists of 15 shades, most of them vibrant and perfect for the summer! The formula is creamy, glides on without tugging on the lips and delivers an opaque finish in 1-2 swipes. The matte formula is quite matte and yet very comfortable on the lips. 2. Colorbar Kiss-proof Matte Lip Stain

This is a collection 8 beautiful liquid lip stains that are light-weight, long wearing and transfer-resistant. Even though they are called lip stains, their texture is more of a creamy lipstick which sets to a matte finish. The pigmentation of these is excellent and works well to cover pigmented lips.

3. Revlon Colorburst Matte Lip Balms

These lipsticks come in a retractable crayon form with packaging to match the actual shade of the lipstick. They have a very creamy, highly pigmented texture that stays comfortable on the lips and is long-wearing. They have an absolute matte finish. Not all shades are created alike and a few can apply unevenly. Nevertheless, all of them have a very light-weight formula. Must-try shades from this range are Unapologetic– a neon bright warm pink (which is quite similar to MAC Impassioned) and Elusive– a daily wear soft pink. 4. Sugar Matte As Hell Crayons

These lipsticks again come in a crayon form but unlike the revlon ones, they are not retractable and have to be sharpened with the sharpener that comes along with these. Depending on your preference, this may be a a pro or a con. Nonetheless, these are highly pigmented and feel very light-weight on the lips. They have a good matte finish yet glide on the lips flawlessly. Sadly they only have 4 shades in this range. 5. NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

These lip creams come with a mousse-like soft formula that glides on buttery smooth. They have a very very light-weight formula as in you can sometimes forget that you’re even wearing something on your lips. It is quite a thin formula and feels more like a lip stain. They dry powdery matte and their pigmentation is sheer to medium. NYX products were slightly difficult to get in India but worry not! NYX is soon launching in India both online and offline. 6. Faces Matte Lip Crayon

These lip crayons from Faces are non-retractable crayons with a high pigmentation. They glide on the lips ultra smoothly and have a good staying power. They set into have an absolute matte finish. Must-try shades from this range are the Peach Me (an everyday peachy pink shade) and Irresistible Pink (vivid pink shade). Buy them here.

7. Chambor Liquid Matte Lipsticks

These recently launched liquid lipsticks from Chambor are easy one of the best matte lipsticks you’ll find in India. They come in 18 beautiful shades which range from pinks to reds to nudes and browns. They are HIGHLY pigmented and give an opaque coverage so are ideal for someone with pigmented lips. The lipsticks apply glossy in the beginning but dry down to an absolute matte finish in under a minute. They are not transfer-proof but they do last a long time on the lips so much that you’ll need an oil-based remover to get rid of them at the end of the day! The only con with these lipsticks is that they have an overwhelming scent to them but if you are okay with that, you need to give atleast one of them a try! 8. Lakme 9 to 5 Matte Lip Color

This is an affordable range from Lakme which has a number of shades to choose from. All of them come is a beautiful rose-gold packaging. They have a creamy matte formula, light-weight texture, good pigmentation and are very comfortable on the lips. Their lasting power is not the best but given the affordable price point, the comfortable formula and the huge selection of shades, this is a must-try! 9. Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick

One of the most budget-friendly lipsticks in this list, this matte lipstick range has quite a lot of shades (about 23) to choose from. They have a very creamy formula and a satin-matte finish so they are great for someone with dry lips. Buy it here.

10. Maybelline Lip Gradation

This range from Maybelline has about 7 shades and are the Indian version of their Lip Blur range sold abroad. So each of them comes with a blurring tool on the other end of the crayon. Irrespective of whether you are a fan of the whole ‘lip blurring’ trend or not, there is no denying the fact that these are one of the best drugstore matte lipsticks available in India. They are very pigmented, glide like butter and have a good staying power. However, they might feel drying on the lips with time.
