MAC Face and Body Foundation: Review, Price In India, Swatch

Hey Guys!

I’m reviewing the MAC Face and Body Foundation today which is hands down one of my favourite foundations of all time. And if you’re looking for a foundation which has a natural-looking dewy finish and photographs beautifully, look no further. However, it does have its cons and may not suit everyone. So lets jump right into the review and see what distinguishes this foundation from others in the market and if it is right fit for you not.

Price: Rs 1700/ 27 USD for 50ml

REVIEW

The foundation comes in a little plastic bottle which is sturdy, light-weight and quite convenient to store and travel. It has a black lid which keeps the bottle tightly shut and prevents the foundation from leaking outside. That being said, whenever I open mine, even though there is never any leakage outside the bottle, there is always a small amount of foundation that has come out of the opening and has messed it up inside. Its not a big issue but for the sake of the review, I thought I’d mention it here.

Texture

The bottle has no pump but the opening through which the foundation is dispensed, dispenses just the right amount of product. The texture of the foundation is quite thin and a bit gel-like. It gives an initial impression of the foundation being quite sheer, just a bit more than a tinted moisturizer. But what distinguishes this foundation from most of the others is that its texture begins to change when you start rubbing the foundation into your skin. Within a few seconds of working the foundation into your skin, its texture transforms from thin into a thicker one with a much more coverage. I’ve tried using it with my fingers and a synthetic buffing brush and I find myself preferring the former.

How I Apply It

I take a small quantity, about 2 drops of the foundation and apply it onto one of my cheeks. With my fingers, I then start to rub and work the product in a circular motion into my skin (like you would apply a moisturizer). In about 10-15 seconds, when I feel the texture has started to change and I can now feel a certain ‘resistance’ in the movement, I will start patting the skin. This will make sure there aren’t any streaks and the foundation is evenly set. After this I will repeat these steps for the rest of my face and neck. If I feel I need more coverage, I will build it up in subsequent layers.

Applied this way, the foundation can give anywhere from a light coverage to a good medium-high coverage. Although you might need some spot concealing if you have any dark spots/blemishes. One thing to remember here is that you should never use a sponge or a natural-bristle makeup brush with this product. Because of its thin consistency, the foundation will get absorbed almost instantaneously into them, leaving almost nothing to be applied onto the face.

Finish

Coming onto the best part of this foundation. Its finish! It settles into a dewy finish which gives the illusion of a very smooth, poreless and healthy-looking skin even while providing a good amount of coverage. The finish is so natural that while looking into the mirror, sometimes even I cannot detect if I’m wearing a foundation. No kidding 🙂 It is quite buildable and even when you build up 2-3 layers, it never ever looks cakey or unnatural. Also, even though it is dewy, it does not settle into my laugh lines, an issue I commonly face with other dewy/semi-matte foundations. It is very forgiving on the skin and will not cling onto or highlight any dry areas. Since it is a dewy foundation, it is a good idea to always set it with a powder. It transforms beautifully in pictures and photographs well in flash too.

Longevity

If you set it with a powder and have no primer underneath, it lasts for about 4-5 hours (lesser if you are sweating) after which it can start moving around at which time, it will need a re-touch with some powder. It doesn’t transfer to your clothes but it can transfer a bit to your phone if you’ve been holding it into your cheek for sometime.

Shade

I have the foundation in the shade C2. The shade is slightly yellow-based but largely neutral. I bought this foundation in the winter time when I was close to NC 30 but now that I’m getting tanned, C3 would be a better fit for me. With that said, the shades in this range are much more forgiving than other foundations.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

The MAC Face and Body Foundation is great for everyone who is looking for a natural, dewy finish foundation which gives a moderate amount of coverage and photographs well in flash photography. It is ideal for those with a normal to dry skintype but will work for combination skin types too as long as you powder the oily regions. For very oily skin types, this will not be something you would enjoy using as it will melt off your face in a couple of hours! The finish of this product certainly gives it an edge over most other foundations and makes it a must-try, that is if you fall under the right skin type. Highly Recommended!

    • Hey Saloni! Studio Fix is a proper high coverage and a matte foundation, very ideal for oily skin. On the other hand, this one is quite dewy and will not stay on oily skin except in the cooler months when your skin gets drier. So between the 2, I would recommend studio fix for the summers. But if you are like me and not a fan of the very matte and high coverage look of the studio fix, I would definitely suggest trying the Matchmaster. It has a satin-finish, moderate coverage and is great for oily skin 🙂

  1. Sounds so perfect and 50 ml for 1700, I wouldn’t say is a bad deal either. But, I feel a bit disappointed by the lasting power though because my current favorites Maybelline Matte and Poreless and L’oreal Infallible practically lasts all day on me.

  2. I have never tried this foundation, I never felt the need to buy MAC foundation as they are way to expensive, but i loved the way you reviewed it.

  3. Hi Komal,I too wanted to try this foundation but the MUA suggested me to try out thme Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation as i have dry skin.I loved the Studio Sculpt and maybe next time I try this one.Great review dear.Loved your blog.

  4. Hi Komal.I too wanted to try this foundation but the MUA suggested me to try out the Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation as I have dry skin.I love that one too but next time I will definitely be picking it up . Great review and loved your blog.

  5. A detailed review, Komal! Thanks a lot for that.

I was giving a thought about picking this product and now I’m sure. I’d get it when the weather turns normal here in Chennai. Now anything dewy will end up disappearing in an hour due to all the heat and sweat.

    Happy blogging! 🙂

  6. I have dry skin and it’s so difficult to find a good dewy foundation that doesn’t make me look oily :/ thanks for the review!

  7. I think this foundation will work well for me since I have dry skin. So far I have tried the MAC ProLongwear foundation and MAC Mineralize Moisture foundation and liked them both!
