Mascara is probably one of those products in my vanity that I can never go without. On days that I’m in a rush, a good curl in my eyelashes and 2-3 coats of mascara are all that I put on my eyes. Ofcourse, like everyone else, I too have a preference. I love mine to make my eyelashes look as thick as possible. Infact the more dramatic the volume, the better it is! Having naturally blessed with quite long eyelashes, I never really do care about the length it provides.
With this in mind, I picked up probably one of the hottest selling mascaras in India, Maybelline the Falsies Mascara in the Waterproof version. I have tried other versions of this mascara like the washable one and the flared, which isn’t available in India. All of them have minor differences amongst them, so for the sake of the review, I’ll only be reviewing Maybelline the Falsies Mascara in Waterproof version.
Price In India: Rs 500/-
Maybelline is known to make their mascaras look attractive and this one is no different. It comes in a bright purple packaging. It has a curved wand intended to grab the lashes on the inner and outer corners of the eye. The opening of the tube narrows inside to catch excess product so when you take out the wand, all the excess product has been wiped off.
The formula of the product is jet black in color and fairly wet. The good thing about this kind of a consistency is that the mascara spreads easily on the eyelashes. However, the difficult part is that it needs some time before it sets. If you look up or touch your eyelashes in the meantime, it transfers onto the skin. Also personally, I’m not a big fan of thin formulations. I feel the wetter it is, more difficult it is to build volume with the product. Though after a few days of use, the formula dries up just enough to create a good volume whilst still retains its great lengthening action. Speaking of lengthening action, as you can see in the pictures, it makes your eyelashes look super long so if you like that in a mascara, grab this product right away. As for any clumping issues, upto 2 coats of the mascara shows minimal clumping, which is much less than most other mascaras I’ve tried. I don’t like going beyond that, as it starts to stick the eyelashes together, highlighting any gaps in the lashline. Sometimes, I’ve noticed minor flaking on my under-eye area with this mascara on but its not anything major and mostly, there is none at all.
The formula being a waterproof one, holds the curl of the lashes quite well. The offsetting factor though is that waterproof formulation is a little difficult to remove and if I’m not careful, even with my heavy duty Clinique makeup remover it leaves some residue behind.
Maybelline the Falsies Waterproof mascara is a great everyday use mascara. Although it builds both volume and length, the lengthening action of it is much more evident than the volumizing one. The waterproof property holds the eyelash curl well and does not smear a tiny bit when it comes in contact with water. Infact, the waterproof action might be a bit too strong for some people as it becomes difficult to remove the product. The minor flaking (on some occasions) and wet formulation aside, there is no denying the fact that this is one of the best drugstore mascaras available in the Indian market right now. Recommend if you’re looking for a budget-friendly everyday lengthening mascara.
